Background

I was born and raised in Southern California. I attended the University of California, Davis where I worked as a rock-climbing instructor and climbing guide in the Sierra Nevada mountains and received my B.A. in International Relations. After graduation, I followed my passion for international engagement and served in the Peace Corps in Benin, West Africa. While in Benin, I lived in a rural village where I taught English and implemented a first-in-the-nation project to improve data-management for my local school. On returning to the U.S., I worked in the non-profit, for-profit, and government contracting industries, most recently for a USAID-contractor, where I received my PMP Certification and administered global health projects in Southeast Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.

Career Path

At University Research Co., I was responsible for managing the finances and administration of multiple USAID-funded sub awards in Senegal, Malawi, and Bangladesh. I enjoyed the client-facing role coordinating subcontractors and project deliverables, and especially excelled at troubleshooting operational difficulties and advocating effectively for change. When considering a return to business school, I wanted to further develop my talent for identifying the root cause of a problem and collaborating towards a solution. That meant finding a program that was data-driven, team-focused, and results-oriented. I chose Kenan-Flagler based upon its strengths in these areas, hoping to develop business skills, gain leadership experience, and work with colleagues who are committed to positive impact. Post-MBA, I hope to work in management consulting in sub-Saharan Africa.

Interests and Hobbies

I love to rock-climb, and I take full advantage of UNC’s indoor climbing gyms. I also enjoy origami and recently graduated to folding animal models.
