Market-Based Solutions to Vital Economic Issues

Background

I was born and raised on the small island of Bermuda. I attended a boarding school in Concord, Massachusetts for high school, and then the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for my undergraduate studies. There I earned a BA in Environmental Studies and Public Policy. Upon graduation, I stayed in Chapel Hill for a year, working with a clean energy market intelligence startup called IronOak Energy. When my visa expired, I returned home to contribute to the sustainable development of Bermuda. I worked in the Bermuda Government designing policy for solar energy, building energy efficiency, and aquaculture, after which I managed business development for a solar energy developer on the island.

Career Path

My journey thus far has exposed me to a breadth of experiences in the clean energy space. I have conducted significant industry research to understand emerging trends, worked with Government and industry stakeholders to understand the intricacies of policy development, and interacted with solar energy clients to better appreciate customer needs and preferences. Though I value my experiences, the industry in Bermuda is very small. In order to maximize my impact on a global level, I decided to pursue a dual Master of Environmental Management and MBA. At the Duke Nicholas School, I have gained a more technical understanding of the energy industry, while improving my quantitative analysis skills. At UNC Kenan-Flagler I am looking to grow as a leader, build a skillset in financial analysis, and learn from my peers in a collaborative environment. I want to apply both my technical and strategic problem solving skills to help organizations effectively solve big issues, including the dramatic energy transitions that they will confront in the short term.

Interests and Hobbies

Despite the busy schedule at school, I make sure to find time to exercise. I split my time between running, rock climbing, and lifting weights. I also like to escape into nature when possible. I am a certified SCUBA Divemaster, so back in Bermuda you can find me exploring coral reefs and shipwrecks. Here in North Carolina I like to go hiking in the nearby state parks or further west in the mountains. I enjoy travelling, and am always looking to experience new cultures.
