Kenan Institute Launches Kenan Scholars Board of Mentors
Chapel Hill, N.C. – The Frank Hawkins Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise is launching its inaugural Board of Mentors, which will work directly in support of the institute’s 2017-2018 class of Kenan Scholars, with an evening of speed networking at The Strowd in Chapel Hill tonight.
“We’re incredibly grateful to have such an outstanding board of business leaders, policymakers and academic researchers working with our undergraduate scholars,” said Dr. Gregory W. Brown, director of the Kenan Institute. “These scholars are not only at the top of their class, but are wholly committed to using their education to change the world for the better – and their mentors will be playing a critical role in empowering them to do just that.”
The Kenan Institute, which is run through the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School, names a small number of incoming undergraduate and MBA students as Kenan Scholars from the school each year. The scholars are selected through a rigorous application and interview process, and are recognized both for their academic achievements as well as their devotion to improving their community in North Carolina and beyond.
Through the program, Kenan Scholars are introduced to the critical role that business plays in identifying and providing sustainable solutions to contemporary, complex economic issues. The scholars are encouraged to develop the interdisciplinary competencies vital to their becoming successful leaders across the private, public and academic sectors, and are connected with leaders from across these industries to guide their paths.
