First-Year Seminars

Seminars place small groups of students with top faculty to push the boundaries of knowledge.
First-year students in the College of Arts and Sciences can explore the impact of entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial perspectives in a broad array of disciplines through the First Year Seminars in Entrepreneurship program.

Seminars usually include no more than 20 students, are taught by the university's most distinguished researchers and most skillful teachers, and use active learning methods, multi-disciplinary experiences and special projects to focus on advanced, emergent and stimulating topics.

Student Registration

Registration for fall seminars is conducted during the summer through the CTOPS orientation and registration program. Registration for spring seminars is part of general registration. Students should visit the First Year Seminars web site or meet with their academic advisors to get help choosing a First Year Seminar or determining how a seminar opportunity fits with overall degree requirements.

Faculty Proposals and Support

CEI annually offers grants of up to $5,000 to faculty to develop new seminars. Interested faculty should apply directly to the First Year Seminars Program.
