Anthony S. Harrington is president and CEO of Albright Stonebridge Group LLC, an international strategic advisory firm based in Washington, D.C. ASG advises and assists multinational organizations globally on strategic challenges and opportunities. Previously, he served as U.S. Ambassador to Brazil, nominated by President Clinton and confirmed by the U.S. Senate with bipartisan support in a record 12 days
Ambassador Harrington carried out a mandate to upgrade the level of relations between the United States and Brazil and worked closely with both U.S. and Brazilian companies to strengthen business and economic ties. In recognition of his accomplishments, the government of Brazil conferred on Ambassador Harrington the Order of Rio Branco, Grand Cross. He also served as chairman of the President's Intelligence Oversight Board, vice chairman of the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board and a member of the congressionally created Commission on the Roles and Capabilities of the U.S. Intelligence Community.
Mr. Harrington formerly was a senior corporate partner at Hogan & Hartson, a leading international law firm based in Washington, D.C., with offices elsewhere in the United States, Western and Eastern Europe, Asia and Latin America. He currently serves as international strategic advisor to the firm.
He also co-founded several communications/technology firms, including Telecom*USA, the fourth-largest U.S. long distance telephone company prior to its merger with MCI. As a holding company investor, he was also instrumental in the creation of Mindspring, Intercall and PowerTel.
Mr. Harrington is a a member of the managing committee of Albright Capital Management LLC, an affiliated investment firm focused on emerging markets, and the managing board of Civitas Group, an affiliated security industry consulting firm. He is a trustee of the Frank Hawkins Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise and co-chair of the Brazil Institute at the Woodrow Wilson Center.
He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a Morehead Scholar, and Duke Law School, where he served as assistant dean.
